2A And 1A Substate Games to be Decided Saturday Night

basketballSheldon and Western Christian meet for the 2A Substate 1 Title Saturday night at the MOC Floyd Valley High School Gym. The winner moves on to the 2A Boys State Tournament. Western comes in 21-2 and ranked number two in the final Radio Iowa regular season poll. Sheldon enters at 21-3 and ranked number 8 in the final poll.

Sheldon won the District 2 title Tuesday night with a 67-47 win over Spirit Lake as Dallas Ennema led the way with a 31 point night. Also in double figures were Matt Dykstra and James Gradert who hit for 14 points each.

Western won the District 1 title with a 60-53 win over Sioux Center. The Wolfpack had three players in double figures as Michael Den Herder and Taylor Feenstra pumped in 14 points each and Kyle Fopma hit for 13 points.

Western has four players averaging double figures getting 14 per game from Den Herder, 11 each from Feenstra and Josh Van Lingen and 10 per game from Fopma.

Sheldon has two players averaging double figures with Ennema hitting for 20 per game and Gradert adding 11 per game.

The Class 1A Substate 1 game will be an all Siouxland Conference affair with defending State Champ Boyden Hull and Rock Valley squaring off for a third time this season at LeMars for the State Tournament berth. Boyden Hull was ranked number two in 1A in the final Radio Iowa poll and comes in at 21-3 on the year while the Rockets are 16-8 for the season.

Boyden Hull claimed the District 2 title with a 54-31 win over LeMars Gehlen while Rock Valley pulled the upset of 5th ranked Harris Lake Park. Leading Boyden Hull was Colin Bolkema with a game high 23 points.

Rock Valley claimed the District 1 title with a 69-52 win over Harris Lake Park. Balanced scoring had four players in double figures. Scott Westra led the way with 25 points. Andrew Van Ginkel and Jerod Hansen pumped in 14 points each with Hansen pulling down 14 rebounds. Brendan Harberts added 10.

The Comets have four players averaging double figures on the season with Riley Francis at 13 per game. JC Koerselman and Brandt Van Roekel average 12 per game with Colin Bolkema hitting for 11 per game.
