4th Ranked BHRV Softball Team Downs Sheldon Thursday

Sheldon Iowa — Boyden Hull Rock Valley scored 7 runs in the second inning and 5 more in the third to key a 13-1 win over Sheldon Thursday night.

The Nighthawks opened the scoring with a run in the first inning as Taylor Richter led off with a walk and eventually came in to score on an error.

Sheldon tied it at 1-1 with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Nicole Johnson led off with a walk and later scored on an rbi single to left by Alexa Vanden Hall.

The Nighthawks put 7 on the board in the second inning. The highlights included a 2 run single up the middle by Alexis Mousel followed later by a grand slam off the bat of clean up hitter Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag. At that point the Nighthawks were up 8-1.

5 runs off 7 hits in the third inning put the game away for the Nighthawks. The defense held Sheldon in the bottom of the third inning and Boyden Hull Rock Valley had the win 13-1.

Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag got the win giving up 1earned run on 1 hit. She struck out 5and walked 1. Nicole Johnson took the loss giving up 9 earned runs on 11 hits. She walked 3 and struck out 1.

Ranked number 4 in the latest 3A poll the Nighthawks are now 16-2 on the year and 7-1 in the Siouxland Conference. Their only conference loss has come to Sioux Center who got the number 3 spot in the latest poll. Sheldon is 6-9 on the year and 4-6 in the Siouxland.

Sheldon is off until Tuesday when they travel to 15th ranked Cherokee. The Nighthawks are at West Lyon Friday night with a tournament at OA-BCIG on the schedule for Saturday.
