A.G. Kruger Wins National Hammer Throw Competition

Orab-LogoSheldon native A.G. Kruger won the hammer throw competition Friday at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Des Moines.

Kruger recorded a winning toss of 247 feet, 9 inches on his third attempt Friday for his fifth U.S. outdoor title. Chris Cralle ended up second, with a toss of 244-7.

The three time Olympian also won the event at the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 U.S. outdoor championships. He was third in 2012.

A.G. made his first appearance in Des Moines as an Orab track standout competing in the state discus competition as a sophomore in 1995. From there it was on to Morningside College for both track and football. While at Morningside Kruger began hammer throwing for the first time.

Kruger is currently the strength and conditioning coach at Ashland College in Ashland Ohio.
