Alexa De Ruyter to Join Dordt Volleyball Program

Boyden-Hull School LogoSioux Center — Alexa De Ruyter, a senior at Boyden-Hull High School in Hull, has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the women’s volleyball program.

The 5-11 middle and outside hitter is a two year starter for the Comets. During her senior campaign she averaged 1.03 blocks per set, with 27 solo blocks on the year. She earned the Boyden-Hall team award for Most Dedicated player in 2015. In 2014 she led the Siouxland Conference with 1.65 blocks per set. Her average was the second highest mark in Iowa in Class 2A. She posted a personal best 17 blocks in one match during her junior season. De Ruyter was an Academic All-Conference honoree in both volleyball and basketball for her efforts in the classroom. She was also a state track meet participant during her sophomore and junior year.

Alexa is the daughter of Mark and Jill De Ruyter of Boyden, Iowa. She intends to study nursing at Dordt.

Head Coach Chad Hanson said, “I noticed Alexa play during a club tournament with her long blocking arms and strong hustle with a positive team-first attitude. She will provide depth for us in the middle or right side positions. We are grateful for the time invested into Alexa by her high school coach Melannie Hofmeyer and club coach Jocelyn Doorenbos.
