Date posted - September 4, 2012

The NAIA announced its first players of the week and Northwestern College junior Davis Bloemendaal from Orange City earned the weekly honor. The MOC Floyd Valley grad becomes the 14th Northwestern player to capture the national honor.

Bloemendaal completed 20-of-32 passes for a career-high 336 yards through just three quarters of play in the Red Raiders 49-0, season-opening win over Southwestern College of Kansas. The junior quarterback matched his career high with four touchdown passes, all to different receivers, in leading an offense that set a school record with 649 total yards of offense.

Bloemendaal improved his record to 9-0 as a starter under center, dating back to the fourth game of 2011. Earlier he had been named GPAC Player of the Week.

10th-ranked Northwestern, now 1-0, will play at #7 Morningside on Saturday night, Sept. 8 at 7pm.
