Sergeant Bluff Luton ended Boyden Hull Rock Valley’s baseball season with a 12-3 win in the District 1 semis Friday night in LeMars. In the late game it was host team LeMars over MOC Floyd Valley 11-1 in a six inning contest.
In the District finals Monday back at LeMars it will be Sergeant Bluff Luton against the Bulldogs to see who advances to the Substate game Wednesday night also at LeMars.
In District 2 at Spencer top ranked Heelan downed Algona 9-5 and host team Spencer eliminated Storm Lake 3-0. the District final will have Spencer hosting Heelan on Monday with he winner on to Substate Wednesday in LeMars against the winner of District 1.
Sergeant Bluff Luton scored in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. A five run fifth inning set the Warriors up the rest of the way.
The Nighthawks battled back with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Back to back singles by lead off hitter Nick Elgersma and Chris Sietstra started the rally. Elgersma scored when Jared Hanson followed Sietstra with a single up the middle to drive in the first run. Sietstra came in on a bases loaded walk to Collin Bolkema to cut the lead to 6-2.
Boyden Hull Rock Valley put another run on the board in the fourth as DH Isaiah Richter reached on an error and later scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Elgersma to make it 6-3.
In the bottom of the inning Sergeant Bluff Luton stretched the lead out to 8-3 with a two run bottom of the fourth. Three more would come across in the bottom of the fifth.
Cody Selig went the distance for the win. He gave up 6 hits and struck out 8. Chris Sietstra went the first inning and two thirds and took the loss.
With the win Sergeant Bluff Luton improves to 20-14 on the year while Boyden Hull Rock Valley closes the season at 18-9.
