Boyden Hull Rock Valley Routs Emmetsburg

The Nighthawks beat the Emmetsburg E-Hawks 44-12 Friday night at Nick Hulst Field in Rock Valley.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley started scoring early and often, taking advantage of Emmetsburg miscues leading to a 23 point first quarter.  Following an E-Hawk three and out, the Nighthawks were able to capitalize on a fumbled punt snap on the E-Hawk 14 yard line.  Two plays later Logan Steins scored on a 10 yard run making the score 7-0 with 9:49 left in the first quarter.  Emmetsburg answered with another three and out, and Andrew Van Ginkel of the Nighthawks was able to block the punt forcing a safety.  With 8:21 left in the first quarter it was 9-0 Boyden Hull Rock Valley.  The Nighthawks took advantage of the good field position from the E-Hawk safety kick, and Andrew Van Ginkel punctuated a 50 yard drive with a 41 yard touchdown run.  After the score it was 16-0 in favor of the Nighthawks with 7:57 left in the first quarter.

Emmetsburg was able to score points in the ensuing drive.  Highlighted by a 53 yard run by backup running back Brady Christiansen.  Quarterback Brandon Elbert bootlegged his way in from 5 yards out on 4th down, finishing off the 66 yard drive which lasted 2:32.  With the missed extra point, the score was 16-6 with 4:58 left in the first quarter.  The E-Hawks were able to force a Nighthawk three and out, only to give the ball back when Brandon Elbert missed a pitch to running back Brady Christiansen.  Andrew Van Ginkel was quick to recover the fumble and return it for the score finishing off the exciting first quarter with a 23-6 lead for the Nighthawks.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley added two more scores in the second quarter.  The first score came on an electrifying 87 yard touchdown by halfback Omar Mejia.  The single play drive made the score 30-6 with 8:13 left in the second quarter.  Later the Nighthawks were able to effectively finish a two minute drill late in the half, when quarterback Andrew Van Ginkel threw a touchdown pass to Riley Francis with 5.4 seconds left.  The Nighthawks score finished a 43 yard drive which lasted 1:20, making the score 37-6 at the half.

The Nighthawks and E-Hawks traded second half scores.  Boyden Hull Rock Valley scored first when Omar Mejia ran untouched thanks to a key Jerod Hansen block for 35 yards.  The run capped a 28 second drive making the score 44-6 with the good extra point. Boyden Hull Rock Valley was perfect attempting extra points on the night.  Late in the 4th the E-Hawks finished off a 3:49 61 yard drive with a 2 yard touchdown run by Allen Jensen.  The extra point was blocked, and both teams traded possessions until the end of the contest.  The final score was 44-12 Nighthawks.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley improves to 2-0 and will open district play against Sioux Center at Sioux Center.  Emmetsburg falls to 0-2 and will open their district play when they host North Union next week.
