Cole Vande Vegte to Attend Dordt

Dordt_Defenders logoSioux Center Iowa — Cole Vande Vegte, a senior at Unity Christian High School in Orange City has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the baseball program.

Vande Vegte is currently a pitcher and shortstop for the Knights. He had 90 strikeouts during the 2015 season, with 225 total strikeouts in his career. His opponents hit .195 and his earned run average was 2.70 in 57 innings of work. Last season he batted .270 with 15 RBI’s. Vande Vegte was named first-team all-conference, first-team all-district, and second-team All-Northwest Iowa Review. As a junior, he had 80 strikeouts with a 2.15 earned run average and earned second-team all-conference honors. He was also a second team all-conference honoree in basketball his senior year.

“We are excited to have Cole join our baseball program. He has had a great career playing for Coach Schoonhoven at Unity Christian. We look forward to him having continued success at Dordt College,” said Dordt College head coach Jeff Schouten.

Cole is the son of Gary and Amy Vande Vegte of Orange City Iowa.
