College Basketball Wrap from Wednesday: NWC Men Upset, Defenders Cruise To Victory

Mitchell, SD — The #3 Dordt College Defender men’s basketball team used a strong start to the second half to pick up a 95-78 GPAC road win over Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday. With the win the Defenders improve to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the GPAC while the Tigers fall to 3-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.


Yankton, SD — The unranked Mount Marty Lancers pulled the upset card and defeated #6 Northwestern Red Raiders 56-54 in GPAC men’s basketball Wednesday night in Yankton, SD.

The win snaps Northwestern’s 19-game winning streak over the Lancer’s dating back to February 2004.

Northwestern’s Ben Miller was the top scorer adding 14 points and 7 rebounds.

The Red Raiders are now 7-2 on the season, 3-1 in the GPAC. Mount Marty is 4-4 (3-2 in the GPAC) .

 The #2 Northwestern Red Raider women posted a 62-51 over Mount Marty Wednesday. Karen Hutson scored 21 points to lead the Northwestern in scoring. The Red Raiders are now 6-3 on the season and 2-2 in GPAC.

The Defender women’s basketball team fell 95-84 to the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in a Great Plains Athletic Conference contest in Mitchell, SD Wednesday and move to 4-6 on the season and 1-2 in the conference while Wesleyan improves to 7-2 on the year and 1-1 in the GPAC.
