Comets on to Substate With Thursday Night Win

Comet LogoBoyden Hull will move on to Substate following a 54-31 win over LeMars Gehlen Thursday night in Sioux Center for the District 2 1A title. The defending State Champs will meet Rock Valley who upset 5th ranked Harris Lake Park 69-52. The Siouxland Conference foes will meet Saturday night at the LeMars High School Gym for a trip to the State Tournament.

The Comets opened a 14-9 first quarter lead as Riley Francis hit a pair of three-pointers and JC Koerselman hit a trio of two-point buckets. At the half the lead was 23-15. At the end of the third quarter Boyden Hull was in front 42-23 heading into the final 8 minutes. The Comets would pick up the win 54-31.

Collin Bolkema scored a game high 23 points including an 11 point third quarter. He would finish with 3 three-point buckets all in the third quarter along with 4 two-point buckets and a 4-of-4 night at the free throw line. Brandt Van Roekel and JC Koerselman added 9 points each.

The Jays got a team high 17 points from Michael Whitehead and 7 points from Solomon Freking.

With the win second ranked Boyden Hull improves to 21-3 on the season while the Jays end the year at 18-5.
