Comets to Play for State Tournament Berth

The Boyden Hull Comets will play for a spot in the Class 1A Boys Basketball Tournament following a 63-43 win over Central Lyon Friday night in the District 4 final played at the Western Christian Gym.

The Comets will meet Kingsley Pierson who posted a 66-55 win over LeMars Gehlen Friday night in the District 4 final at Cherokee. Tip off for the Substate game will be at 6:30 Saturday night at Tyson Event Center in Sioux City.

The Comets opened with a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 41-13 lead. Boyden Hull held off a Central Lyon run to open the second half and answered with a couple of threes as they held a 52-30 advantage after three quarters before going on to win it 63-43.

Boyden Hull had three players in double figure led by Brandt Van Roekel with 14 points. Taylor Francis added 13 and Bryce Moss hit for 11. All told 9 Comets found their way into the score book.

Ross Ackerman had a game high 15 to lead Central Lyon. He was joined by Jaren Schrick with 10 points.

With the win Boyden Hull improves to 22-2 on the season while the Lions end the year at 11-13.
