Defender Gold Club American State Bank High School All Star Basketball Games Hosted By Dordt Saturday

Sioux Center Iowa — The Defender Gold Club/American State Bank High School All-Star Basketball Games were held Saturday, March 17 at the De Witt Gym on Dordt College’s campus in Sioux Center. The game has been an annual event since 1996. MVP’s of the event included Jaden Kleinhesselink of Sheldon for the White Team, Caleb Harmsen of Western for the Gray Team. For the girls MVP honors went to Ashtyn Veerbeek of Western and Jordyn Van Maanen of Sioux Center. The girls 3 point contest winner was Paytin Hagberg of Cherokee. The boys contest went to Caleb Harmsen of Western Christian.

In the boys contest the White team led at halftime 43-30 and went on to down the Gray team 97-77. Brendan Zeutenhorst of Sioux Center led the scoring with 16 points. Jaden Kleinhesselink of Sheldon was next with 14 to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Malachi Van Wyhe of West Lyon also hit for 14 points. Tyus Arends of Sioux Center dropped in 12. Jason Taylor of Rock Valley netted 11 while Micah Meyer of West Lyon hit for 10.

In the girls contest the White team led 38-19 at the half and went on to a 67-59 win. Ashtyn VeerBeek of Western Christian hit for 20 points and pulled down a dozen rebounds for the double-double. She was joined in double figures by Wolfpack teammate Jessi De Jager with 10 points. Jordyn Van Maanen of Sioux Center led the Black team with 15 points while dishing out 3 assists with 5 steals. Mia Hoogeveen of West Lyon joined her in double figures with 11 points.

The Defender Gold Club High School All Star Game has been an annual event since 1996 involving players from the Siouxland, War Eagle and Lakes Conferences.
