DeJong To Join Northwestern Basketball, Cross County Programs

Unity Christian senior Karissa De Jong of Hospers has signed a letter of intent to continue her cross country and basketball careers at Northwestern College next year.

De Jong lettered two years for the Unity Christian cross country team. She helped lead the Knights to the 2011 state championship, finishing 21st at the state meet with a time of 15:42. De Jong also led the Knights to a runner-up finish in 2010 and earned all-conference honors the last two years. An outstanding student and member of the honor roll, De Jong is the daughter of Darin and Lori.

“Karissa is a welcome addition to our program,” commented head cross country coach Nate Wolf. “She is an incredible young lady who comes from a very successful program. Karissa will have a great impact on our team and on the Northwestern campus.”

A three-year letterwinner for the Knights basketball team, De Jong earned second team all-conference honors in leading the Knights to an 8-14 record last year. She averaged 7.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while leading the team with 31 three-pointers and 63 steals.

“We are excited to have a competitor like Karissa join our basketball program,” commented head basketball coach Chris Yaw. “She shoots the ball well and has good quickness. Karissa will be a tremendous fit on our team and on our campus at Northwestern College.”
