Dordt Defender Gold Club All Star Basketball Games Decided Saturday

The Dordt College Defender Gold Club hosted the annual Pizza Ranch High School All-Star Basketball Games on Saturday, March 17.

The three-point champion for the girls was Whitney Vander Maten of Boyden Hull who made ten shots in: 45 seconds. The boys competition was won by Keegan Mulder ofMOCFloydValleywith 13.

MVP’s were Amber Timmins of LeMars Gehlen and Whitney Vander Maten for the girls.  Boy’s MVP honors were shared by Daniel Jansen of MOC FloydValley, Austin Homan of LeMars and Ross Groeneweg of Unity Christian.

In the girls game the Gold team led at the half 37-34 with the Black team going on to post a 67-66 win. With :10 seconds left Vander Maten hit one of two free throws to give the Black team the one point win. Vander Maten led all scorers with 20 points while Jennifer Johnson ofCentral Lyon hit for 17 points.

The Gold squad had three players in double figures with Erica Dreckman of Marcus Meriden Cleghorn, Casie Rehder of South O’Brien and Timmins of LeMars Gehlen hitting for 12 points each.

In the boys game the Gold squad was up 49-42 at halftime going on to win 83-79 over the Black Team. The Gold Team was led by Ross Groeneweg of Unity with 17. Austim Homan of LeMars hit for 14 points with Bulldog team mate Jordan Eisma pumping in 11.

The Gold Team was led by Daniel Jansen of MOC Floyd Valley with 27 points. Also in double figures was Ross Ackerman of Central Lyon with 13. Bryce Moss of Boyden Hull had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
