Dordt, Northwestern Fall in Quarterfinal GPAC Volleyball Tournament

The 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Volleyball Tournament opened on Tuesday with four quarterfinal matches around the conference and found the Defenders and Red Raiders heading home.
The Dordt College Defender volleyball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to the Briar Cliff Chargers on set scores of 25-22, 31-29, 29-27. The Defenders end their season 22-12 (11-5).
The fifth seeded Northwestern Red Raiders came up short against fourth-seed Midland Lutheran 3-0 in Fremont, Nebraska on game scores of (25-20, 25-19, 25-21). The Red Raiders end their 2012 campaign with a 21-10 record, 11-6 in the GPAC.
In other GPAC action, top seeded Hastings was a 3-0 winner over #8 Concordia (25-10, 25-14, 25-18). Second seeded Doane won a five set thriller over #7 Morningside 3-2 (22-25,22-25,25-17,25-17,15-7).
The 2012 GPAC Volleyball Tournament features eight teams. The winner of the tournament receives the league’s automatic berth to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament. The GPAC receives one automatic berth this year because the conference is below 12 NAIA volleyball teams. Quarterfinal round play will begin on Tuesday, November 6, at the four highest seeds. The semifinals are on Thursday, November 8, with the Championship on Saturday, November 10.
The NAIA National Volleyball Tournament will begin on Saturday, November 17, with opening round matches at 12 campus sites across the country. The top 11 teams in the country and Sioux City local host institution will automatically advance to the NAIA National Volleyball Championship, presented by the CNOS Foundation, in Sioux City, Iowa, at the Tyson Events Center November 7 – December 1, 2012. The top eleven in the NAIA final poll, and the local Sioux City host team, will be joined by the 12 winners of the opening round matches which will be played on November 17.
