Dordt Softball Team Drops A Pair Against Hastings

Dordt Defenders LogoSioux Center, IA — A six run inning by the visiting Hastings College Broncos vaulted them to an 8-1 win over the Dordt Defenders in softball action at Open Space Park in Sioux Center Saturday.

Dordt was outhit 10-5. Haley Huisman was 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and had a single and double.

Sidney Larsen took the loss for the Defenders and allowed two walks and struck out five, going the distance on the hill for Dordt. Hastings’ McKenzie Welchert struck out five and walked two in getting the win.

In game two, Dordt had trouble solving Taylor Erlenbusch’s pitching and lost a 5-1 decision to Hastings in Great Plains Athletic Conference softball.

Erlenbusch struck out 12 and walked three while retiring nine straight batters and pitched a three-hitter on the way to the complete game win.

Dordt was outhit 8-3 with Brittany Kooiker taking the loss with one strikeout, six walks and five earned runs allowed.

Dordt is now 2-4 in the GPAC and 6-17 overall and will face Northwestern on Tuesday night in Orange City. Hastings is 4-0 in the league and 13-5 overall.
