Dordt College Sophomore Kayla Gesink from Sioux Center has added Tachikara NAIA Honorable Mention All-American to her list of post-season volleyball awards for the 2012 season.

Gesink claimed the honor after helping the Defenders to a 22-12 overall mark and an 11-5 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference this season while also claiming first-team all-GPAC honors and first-team AVCA NAIA All-West Central Region.

Gesink put up 9.26 assists this season with a 2.5 digs per set average. She recorded a team high 35 service aces and had 105 kills in 121 sets this season. Gesink also accounted for 16 solo blocks and 62 assisted blocks.

“It is wonderful, once again, to have Kayla surface with this national level of recognition. She is such a talented setter and team leader,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson. “She will continue to develop her God-given abilities to prepare our team for further success in the immediate future.”
