Dordt Sweeps NWC For GPAC Tournament Title

Dordt won its first post-season GPAC Tournament title since 2006 with a sweep of Northwestern at the De Witt Gym on Saturday night.

Playing the match in front of a near capacity crowd the Defenders started quickly in set one with a 5-1 run with two Northwestern attack errors, a pair of Ema Altena kills and a block.

Northwestern rallied to tie the set at nine and 10 but Dordt scored four in a row to go up 14-10. Altena started the run with a kill and a block, Aubrey Drake ace and a Northwestern ball handling error put Dordt up by four. Northwestern got to with three but got no closer with Altena finishing the set with a block.

Northwestern started set two with a 4-2 advantage but a six point run by the Defenders put them up for good and the lead ballooned to 15-6 before the visitors got to within five, the last time at 23-18. Ally Krommendyk had a kill to end the threat and then recorded a block to finish the set 25-18.

Set three was tight up to an 18-17 Northwestern lead but a service error tied it and Krommendyk scored a point with a kill and Dordt eventually led 20-18. Northwestern had the score down to 20-19 and 21-20 before back to back points gave the Defenders room to breathe and they won it 25-21 on a kill by Leah Kamp.
