Dordt Tops Midland 27-21

Dordt College secured its school record seventh win to close the 2018 football season with a 27-21 win on the road over the Midland Warriors in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.  The Defenders bounced back after giving up a 13-0 lead to win the game and finish third in the GPAC.

Dordt started the scoring by marching 75 yards into a strong breeze and Keithen Drury  plunged in from three yards to give Dordt a 6-0 lead after the point after failed.

Dordt’s defense scored for the fifth time this season with Jordan Weiland picking off a deflected pass and he raced 30 yards for a 13-0 lead with 10:15 left in the first half.

Dordt couldn’t maintain the shutout as the Warriors took the ensuing drive 91 yards for a touchdown and the score was 13-7 at halftime.

Midland made easy work of it to start the second half with a three-play, 64 yard drive to take the lead at 14-13.

The visitors had an answer as Brock Lamle found Ben Hayes for a 32 yard pass into the wind and Levi Schoonhoven bulled in from one yard out on first and goal and Dordt’s lead was 19-14.

Midland was limited to three plays and a punt and Dordt took over at its own four yard line. Keithen Drury broke off a 70 yard run on the first play from scrimmage and Dordt eventually scored on a Lamle to Levi Jungling 23 yard pass for a 27-14 lead with 8:08 still remaining in the third period.

A lost fumble opened the door for Midland to score with 4:37 left in the third and the Warriors went 39 yards for the score and cut the lead to 27-21.

Neither team was able to mount a serious threat for the duration of the fourth quarter with Nathan Kabongo intercepting his second pass of the day and Dordt ran out the clock with Keithen Drury running for 12 yards on third and five with 1:18 left in the game to put the game away.
