Dordt Tops Midland, Advances To GPAC Title

Dordt earned a spot in the GPAC Volleyball Tournament championship match with a 3-1 win over the Midland Warriors on Wednesday night in Sioux Center.

Dordt pulled away late in set one for a 25-18 victory after trialing 14-13. The Defenders tied it on an attack error at 14-14 and two more attack errors by the visitors put Dordt up for good in the set. Julia Lindbergh’s kill stopped a Midland threat for a 19-16 lead and the lead grew to 22-16 with Ally Krommendyk ending the run with a kill. Dordt held on to win 25-18 with Leah Kamp punctuating the win.

Set two was all Midland early with a 12-1 deficit and the difference proved to be too much for Dordt to overcome as the Defenders closed to within six but got no closer. Midland finished the set with three straight points.

Dordt recovered and never trailed in set three, pushing out to a 10-6 lead. The Defenders used a Jamie De Jager kill to start a six point run that ended with De Jager serving two aces in a row for a 19-9 lead and Dordt finished the set with a 25-16 victory.

Set four was tied 9-9 after an Ema Altena kill and the Defenders took the lead for good on a block by Altena and Krommendyk. Dordt scored 11 of the next 12 points to take control of the set and Krommendyk eventually ended the set and match with a block and Dordt had a 25-15 win.
