Dordt’s Katie Bonnema Wins 600 Meters At Indoor Track Nationals

PrintGeneva, Ohio — Dordt’s Katie Bonnema won the 600 meters at the 2013 NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 2.

Bonnema won the event after leading start to finish, running away from the field with a time of 1:31.52. Her nearest competitor had a time of 1:32.85.

Bonnema also had the fastest time out of the semifinals with a time of 1:32.30.

She was the runner-up in the same event last year with a time of 1:32.88 in the finals and finished sixth in the outdoor championships 400 meter race in 2012.

Briana Vander Woude claimed 5th place in the high jump after clearing 5-5.

Lauren Opp ran ten seconds faster in the finals than she did in the semifinals of the 5,000 meters and finished 8th with a time of 17:53.10.

Vander Woude and Opp both earned NAIA All-American status with their finishes.

Christy Sikkema jumped 36-00 in the triple jump and finished 15th while Merissa Harkema’s time of 5:12.99 in the mile earned 10th.
