Dordt’s Kayla Gesink Earns All-Region Volleyball Honors

Dordt’s Kayla Gesink a sophomore from Sioux Center has been named to the 2012 AVCA NAIA All-West Central Region honor team announced by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association on Wednesday, November 28.

Gesink claimed the honor after helping the Defenders to a 22-12 overall mark and an 11-5 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference this season while also claiming first-team all-GPAC honors.

Gesink put up 9.26 assists this season with a 2.5 digs per set average. She recorded a team high 35 service aces and had 105 kills in 121 sets this season. Gesink also accounted for 16 solo blocks and 62 assisted blocks.

“Kayla has added another level of recognition to her resume by making the AVCA NAIA All-Region Team. The coaches in the West Central Region recognize her talent to lead our program, and I am excited that she still has two years remaining,” said Dordt College volleyball coach Chad Hanson. “As a competitor, I know she wants even more program success in the immediate years ahead.”
