Several Area Footballers Earn Des Moines Register All State Honors

The Des Moines Register All-State Football Teams were announced Sunday. The area was well represented.

In Class 2A a pair of District 1 seniors were named to the first team defense. Ben Starr of Central Lyon George Little Rock was named as a first team lineman while Brandt Van Roekel of Boyden Hull Rock Valley was named a first team defensive back. Also named to the first team defense were Spirit Lake senior linebackers Cody Poock and Paul Brown. Poock was also named to the Elite defense taking in all classes of Iowa football.

Their team mate senior Brett Cochran Bray was named as the kicker on the first team offense.

Senior tailback Josh Hunt of Central Lyon George Little Rock earned second team honors on offense while linebacker Miguel Alvarado of Boyden Hull Rock Valley was named to the second team defense.

In 1A a pair of South O’Brien seniors were named to the second team defense. They included defensive lineman Matt DeVos and defensive back Sam Weber.

In Class A senior offensive lineman Tate Kellenberger of West Lyon earned a spot on the first team along with junior team mate Brandon Snyder who was named the kicker for the first team offense.
