Sioux Center, Iowa — Alyssa Fedders, a senior at Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the women’s basketball and golf programs.
Fedders brings a wealth of success to the Defender athletics programs. A three-time all-conference golf performer, Alyssa has led the Knights to three straight state meet appearances, finishing third in Class 3A in 2013, seventh in Class 3A in 2014, and 5th place in Class 2A in 2015. Individually, Fedders finished 9th overall in 2013 and 7th in 2015. As a junior she paced the Knights shooting an average of 44.6 per round.
“Alyssa will be a great addition to our women’s golf team next fall. She has had an outstanding high school golf career at Unity Christian, leading them to the previous two state golf tournaments; and compiling two top-ten finishes in the state golf meet the past two seasons. Her golf game has really improved with instruction from Matt Nice, PGA golf professional at The Ridge Golf Club. She is a great leader and competitor and will bring these gifts into our program and will have an immediate impact in the GPAC conference,” said Dordt Golf Coach Mark Christians.
On the basketball court, Fedders played a key role in Unity Christians 2015 2A State Championship. With Fedders in the line-up, the Knights posted a perfect 27-0 record. The junior averaged 4.2 points per game, while compiling 52 assists, 37 steals, and 72 rebounds, earning all-conference honorable mention honors. Fedders also played a role in the Knights 2013 Class 3A State Runner-Up finish. As a sophomore she averaged 3.7 points while racking up 28 assists, 38 steals, and 44 rebounds.
“One thing that sticks out to me in regards to Alyssa is her commitment to her team. She leads well, works hard, and gives an all-out effort for benefit of her team. She is the type of kid who will do whatever is asked, without questions. You need kids with that mentality in your program if you want to be successful. I have appreciated hearing her high school coaches and teammates talk about the impact she makes with her toughness and work ethic and look forward to coaching her at Dordt,” said Women’s basketball Coach Katie DeWitt-Severson.
Alyssa is the daughter of Ron and Marg Fedders of Sioux Center, Iowa. She plans to studyExercise Science at Dordt.
