Friday Was Championship Day At The Iowa State High School Volleyball Tournament

volleyballCedar Rapids, Iowa — MOC Floyd Valley repeated as Class 3A State Volleyball Champions with a straight set win over 3rd ranked Kuemper Catholic in Friday afternoon’s finals. In Class 2A Western Christian met Dike New Hartford in the finals for a third straight year. In another epic battle Dike New Hartford earned their three peat with a 3-1 win.

In the 3A title the Lady Dutch won on set scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-13 as they won back to back titles. Stat leaders for MOC Floyd Valley included Alexis Conaway with 19 kills and 5 blocks. She also had 11 digs to tie Katie Landhuis for team honors. Emily McDonald was the serve leader going 17-of-18 with 2 ace serves.

Named to the All Tournament team were Shelby Schouten, Emily McDonald and Alexis Conaway who was named team captain. Conaway led all of 3A with 52 kills. Emily McDonald led the field with 8 ace serves. Alyssa Brown led 3A with 112 assists and Ali Achterhof led 3A with 1.8 blocks per game. MOC Floyd Valley end the year at 35-6.

In the 2A finals Dike New Hartford won the third installment of three meetings with Western Christian in the finals 3-1. The first set went to the Wolfpack 25-20. Dike New Hartford regrouped to win the final three 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20. Stat leaders for Western Christian included Jade Schaap with 14 kills with Haley Moss adding 13. Jamie Gesink had 43 assists to go with a 23-of-23 serving performance including 2 ace serves.

Named to the All Tournament team were Alissa Pollema, Haley Moss and Jamie Gesink. Western Christian ends the season at 45-3 in their State leading 31st appearance at the State Volleyball Tournament.
