Sioux City, Iowa – The two brackets for the 2016 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Baseball Tournaments are set. Top seed, and regular season champion, Midland will serve as one bracket host (the bracket includes the (1,4,5,8 seeds), while second seed Briar Cliff will be the other bracket host (including the 2,3,6,7 seeds) for the two four-team tournaments. This is the second year that the GPAC is using the current format for the postseason.
Tournament play will open on Thursday, May 5, at both bracket locations. In Fremont, Nebraska, the Midland Bracket will host Concordia, Northwestern, and Dakota Wesleyan. In Sioux City, the Briar Cliff Bracket will host Morningside, Mount Marty and Hastings. Games will continue on Friday, May 6, with the bracket championship games on Saturday, May 7. The Midland and Briar Cliff bracket winners will meet on Tuesday, May 10, in the GPAC Baseball Tournament Championship Game. The final game will be a single nine-inning contest.
Midland has secured the league’s first berth to the NAIA Opening Round, while the GPAC Tournament Champion will receive the second berth. If Midland wins the GPAC Tournament then the regular season runner-up Briar Cliff will receive the second GPAC berth to the NAIA Opening Round.
All games in the GPAC Tournament are nine innings and the two brackets will be double elimination. The overall GPAC Baseball Championship Game is a winner take all 9 inning contest regardless of prior records in bracket play.
