The University of Iowa baseball team posted a 7-6 victory and series win over Minnesota on Sunday afternoon at Duane Banks Field. The Hawkeyes won the final two games to claim their first series win over the Gophers since 2005.
It is Iowa’s second-straight Big Ten series victory for the Hawkeyes after taking 2-of-3 at Northwestern on April 11-12. The victory moves the team’s record to 22-15 overall and 7-8 in league play. The 22 wins match last season’s total.
Iowa finished with 11 hits in the contest with four players posting multi hit games including former Orab Taylor Zeutenhorst who went 2-for-4 with 1 run scored.
On Saturday the Hawkeyes scored the game’s final 11 runs to rally from a 5-0 deficit for an 11-5 victory over Minnesota in front of a season-high 1,036 fans.
Zeutenhorst connected on a bomb into the back drop in centerfield for his seventh home run of the season and second in as many days. On the day Taylor went 2-for-4 scored 2 runs and drove in a run as well. On Friday Zeutenhorst hit his sixth home run of the season. That was a two run shot to left center.
Iowa (22-15, 7-8) returns to action Wednesday at Creighton. The game will be played at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., beginning at 6:36 p.m., and it will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
