HMS Opens Girls Tourney With win Over Central Lyon

HMS School LogoHartley Iowa — Hartley Melvin Sanborn opened the girls basketball tournament with a 72-43 home win over Central Lyon Thursday night in a game broadcast on KIWA FM 105.3. The Hawks move on to the quarterfinals of 1A Region 1 hosting George Little Rock on Tuesday February 16th. The Mustangs advanced with a 52-16 home win over Clay Central Everly.

HMS opened with a 13-1 run and never looked back as they led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. The lead was 40-23 at halftime. In the third quarter the Lions would get to within 9 points only to see the Hawks go on a scoring run to take a 58-37 lead into the fourth quarter. HMS would get the win 72-43.

The Hawks put four of their five starters in double figures getting a game high 21 from Regan Shockley. Kenna Rieck hit for 17 including 11 points in the second quarter. Erin Streit pumped in 8 points in the third quarter and finished with 14. Claire Solsma added 10 points for the Hawks. Central Lyon was led by Lexie Ramsey with 14 points including 9 in the third quarter.

The Hawks advance  to the Region Quarterfinals with a 16-6 record. Central Lyon ends the year at 9-13.
