Ihnen All American Finishes 8th In The Nation
Date posted - March 17, 2012
Nebraska wrestler Josh Ihnen earned All-America honors on Friday as the Nebraska wrestling team completed the second day of the 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis. The former Sheldon Orab won his fourth round consolation match to guarantee himself a spot in the top eight at 184 pounds at the nationals.
Ihnen, who had finished one match short of becoming an All-American the past two seasons, defeated Number 8 seed Ryan Loder from Northern Iowa in his consolation fourth round match by decision, 5-3.
Ihnen then advanced to face Number 3 Ben Bennett of Central Michigan, but was forced to injury default and fell to the eighth-place match where he was slated to face off against the Number 1 seed Joe LeBlanc of Wyoming. Due to Friday night’s injury Ihnen forfeited the match and finished 8th in the nation at 184 pounds.
Earlier in the tournament Josh dropped a 7-4 decision to second seeded Robert Hamlin of Lehigh early Friday afternoon to drop into the consolation bracket.
Ihnen advanced to the quarterfinals after a one-point win over 10th-seeded Jacob Swartz (Boise State), 3-2 on Thursday evening. The three-time NCAA qualifier recorded a takedown with one minute left in the first period and earned an escape point in the third for the winning point.
