Iowa Girls Basketball State Tournament Berths to Be Decided Monday

basketballIowa Girls Basketball in Class 2A and 1A reaches the Region Final stage Monday night with State Tournament trips up for grabs.

Our broadcast game on KIWA FM 105.3 features the Class 2A match up between top ranked Western Christian and Okoboji for the Region 1 title. The game site will be the Sibley Ocheyedan High School Gym.

Western Christian the defending 2A Champs come in at 21-1 on the season coming off an 81-45 win in the semis over South O’Brien. In that game three players hit double figures. Brooke Wolterstorff hit for 20 points. Erika Douma dropped 5 three-point buckets for 15 points and Kim Kroeze added 11.

Okoboji brings a record of 17-6 to the contest having eliminated Emmetsburg 41-39 in Friday’s semi finals. Abby Taylor led the offense with 14 points while Skylar Hanson hit for 11 points.

Leading the Wolfpack is Brooke Wolterstorff averaging 13.7 points per game and Kim Kroeze with 9.4 points per game.

The Pioneers are led by Darby Jones with 10 points per game and Abby Taylor with 9.8 points per game.

The Class 1A Region 1 title will be decided at Sioux Center as top ranked Central Lyon with a record of 22-2 squares off with West Sioux who comes in at 15-8. in the semifinals Friday Central Lyon advanced with a 66-55 win over George Little Rock. In that game three players hit double figures as Lexi Ackerman led the way with 26 followed by Kori Schulte with 14 and Ivy Sieperda with 13.

West Sioux advanced with a 47-46 semifinal win over West Bend Mallard. Jade Lynn Vlotho had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Rylee Negaard pumped in a dozen and Clarissa Anderson added 10 points.

Leading the Lions offense is Lexi Ackerman averaging 16.8 points per game. Also averaging double figures is Kori Schulte at 13.6 per game.

West Sioux has one player averaging double figures. That’s Jade Lynn Vlotho with 18.5 per game.
