Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All State Teams Out

softballThe Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All State Teams are out.

In Class 1A Jonathan Van Beek earned a spot on the first team pitching staff with Tanner Utesch of Marcus Meriden Cleghorn named to the first team outfield.

Van Beek a senior posted an 11-1 mark with an opponents batting average of .084. He also struck out 147 batters in 76 and two thirds innings with an era of .46. As the Wildcats ace he led the team to a 23-7 record.

Utesch a junior helped MMC to an 18-8 mark. In 25 chances he did not commit an error and had 22 put outs. At the plate Tanner hit .458 with an on base percentage of .545. Utesch drove in 26 runs with 15 extra base hits including 1 home run, 2 triples and 12 doubles. He also stole 8 bases.

Named to the second team pitching staff in 1A was junior Matt Wesselmann of Remsen St Mary’s. As the ace of the staff he helped lead the team to a 25-9 record. Wesselmann had a 9-3 record with a .83 era. In 92 and two thirds innings he struck out 100 and allowed an opponents batting average of just .187.

 

In Class 3A junior Derek Rupp of MOC Floyd Valley earned second team All State honors at second base. On the year he posted an .851 fielding percentage. At the plate Rupp hit .408 with a .470 on base percentage. He hit 3 triples to go with 4 doubles while driving in 35 runs. Rupp’s efforts helped MOC Floyd Valley to a 17-14 season mark.
