Iowa Shrine Football Game Coming July 25th

football-strategy-22687119Sioux City Iowa — The 43rd annual Iowa Shrine Bowl Football Game is set for July 25th at the UNI Dome. Area football players selected to play in this years game were invited to gather in Sioux City for a banquet Monday night.

Northwest Iowa seniors selected to play at the so called “skill positions” for the North Squad this year include Austin Folsom of Spirit Lake, Blake Simons of HMS, Brady Van’t Hul of Western Christian and Omar Mejia of Boyden Hull Rock Valley. Just as skilled linemen from the listening area include Branden DeBoer of Sioux Center, Jake Newborg of West Lyon and Andy Cooper of Sheldon.

Western Christian’s head coach Travis Kooima has been selected as an assistant for the North staff under head coach Scott Freichs of New Hampton. The coaching staffs are selected by the Iowa High School Football Coaches Association.

The Iowa Shrine Bowl, which began in 1973, has raised more than $2.2 million to date with that money going to help The Shriner’s Hospital for Children. A total of 92 football players and 55 cheerleaders were selected for this year’s event. Kick off this year is set for Saturday July 25th at 4pm at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.
