Iowa State vs Texas Preview

The turnaround at Iowa State has been swift.

In his third season Matt Campbell has the 18th ranked Cyclones in the thick of the Big 12 title chase as they get set to visit 13th ranked Texas.

Campbell says he never put a timetable on when this could happen.

Campbell is not focusing on what is at stake at Texas.

Campbell is confident in the depth at running back. David Montgomery won’t play in the opening half against the Longhorns after being ejected for fighting against Baylor.

Texas coach Tom Herman does not expect Iowa State to alter its game plan with running back David Montgomery on the sideline for the opening half. Montgomery was ejected for fighting in a 28-14 win over Baylor and must sit out the first half against the Longhorns.

Herman says with good talent and outstanding coaching the Cyclones have proven they belong in the title chase.

Herman says ISU quarterback Brock Purdy is playing with the maturity rarely seen in a freshman.

It will be a matchup of two outstanding quarterbacks. Longhorn sophomore Sam Ehlinger has 20 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. Herman says Ehlinger has been given a bigger role in changing the play at the line of scrimmage.

Kick off is at 7:00 pm at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
