He’s qualified for the state track and field meet twice and has placed tenth and seventh in the 3,200 meters and fifth in the 1,600.

Dordt College cross country coach Nate Wolf said, “We are excited to have Jacob as a Defender next Fall. Jacob has had incredible success during his cross country and track careers at Unity Christian. He has had quality coaching from Coach Kaemingk, been part of an incredibly successful team, and raced individually at a very high level. Jacob’s toughness, work ethic, and talent make him an ideal fit for our men’s distance program. We look forward to him wearing a gold Defender jersey for the next four years and the impact he can have on our program.”

Jacob is the son of Marty and Kris Vander Plaats of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to study Computer Science and Engineering.
