Kooima, Kabongo Earn GPAC Football Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on Saturday, November 10, 2018.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2018-2019 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week

Offense – Tyson Kooima, Quarterback (Northwestern College)
Quarterback Tyson Kooima of Northwestern College is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Kooima, a sophomore from Hull, Iowa, the Red Raiders to a 31-14 home win over Briar Cliff last weekend. He completed 24 of 29 pass attempts for 336 yards and matched his career-high with four touchdown passes. Kooima has thrown for 300 yards or more in three straight games and four times this season. He is now seventh in career passing yards (5645) and eighth in career passing touchdowns (45) in program history. The fifth-ranked Red Raiders will host 15th-ranked Dickinson State in the opening round of the NAIA Football Championships Series on November 17. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Defense – Nathan Kabongo, Defensive Back (Dordt College)
Defensive Back Nathan Kabongo of Dordt is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Kabongo, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, intercepted a pair of passes for the second consecutive week for the Defenders. He also added four tackles for Dordt in a 27-21 win over Midland. He now has six interceptions on the season. Dordt finished ranked No. 23 in the final NAIA Football Coaches Poll of the season.
