Orange City, Iowa—Kyle Achterhoff has resigned as Northwestern College’s head football coach after seven years in that role.
Northwestern’s teams compiled a 56-19 record under Achterhoff’s leadership, qualifying for the NAIA playoffs in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and earning a share of the Great Plains Athletic Conference title in 2014. Prior to this season, 17 of his players earned All-American honors and 29 were named Scholar-Athletes or Academic All-Americans. His squads twice received NAIA Scholar Team designation.
“We are grateful to Kyle Achterhoff for his 18 years of service to Northwestern College and Red Raider athletics,” says Earl Woudstra, athletic director. “Kyle has served well in his roles as a coordinator and head coach. He has made a significant and lasting impact on many young men who have been a part of the Red Raider football program.”
A 1990 graduate of Northwestern College, Achterhoff was the Red Raiders’ defensive coordinator from 1998 to 2000 and offensive coordinator from 2001 to 2008. He also previously served on the coaching staffs of Northwest Missouri State, where he earned a master’s degree, and Dakota State.
There will be a press conference Thursday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. in the Bultman Center lobby to announce Northwestern College’s new head football coach.
