Lions Down Orabs to Close Regular Season

Sheldon Iowa — Austin Metzger’s rushed for three touchdowns and Kole Telford returned both a punt  and kick off for touchdowns as Central Lyon George Little Rock posted a 63-28 win  Friday night in Sheldon.

Telford opened the scoring with a 78 yard punt return for touchdown with 9:54 left in the first quarter. Carter Krull added the extra point and the Lions were up early 7-0.

Sheldon evened the score on a 35 yard touchdown pass from Brennan Radke to Tyler Lode. Brian Bernal added the extra point for the tie with 6:17 left in the first quarter.

A trio of touchdowns by Central Lyon George Little Rock put them up 29-7 with 5:48 left in the half. Austin Metzger scored on runs of 16 and 5 yards. Metzger added a 2-point conversion after the second touchdown with 10:45 left in the half. The third was a 78 yard run by quarterback Lucas Nagel.

Sheldon cut the lead to 29-14 on a 45 yard touchdown pass from Radke to Cody Vaselaar followed by the  Bernal extra point.

On the ensuing kick off Telford went 60 yards for the score to make it 35-14 at halftime.

Sheldon scored first in the second half as Radke found Lode for a 52 yard score. Bernal’s point after made it 35-21 with 9:46 left in the third.

A pair of touchdowns by the Lions made it 48-21. The first was a 10 yard run by Nagel followed by an 8 yard touchdown pass from Nagel to Zed Heimensen.

Sheldon scored their final touchdown of the night on a 32 yard pass play from Radke to Lode. Brian Bernal added the extra point to make it 49-28 with 10:49 left to play.

The Lions wrapped up the scoring on a 6 yard run by Metzger and a 1 yard sneak by back up quarterback Nate Klingenberg with 1:41 left to play.

With the win Central Lyon George Little Rock closes the regular season at 4-1 in the district for second place and 5-4 on the year. Sheldon ends the year at 5-4 with a 2-3 district record.
