MOC Floyd Valley Claims Final District Playoff Spot With Win Over Sheldon

MOC logoOn a fourth and goal from the MOC Floyd Valley 4 yard line with a minute eighteen to play the Dutch got the stop they needed to seal the win and the final district playoff spot as they turned away Sheldon 29-26 in Orange City Friday night.

The Dutch started the scoring on the second play of the ballgame as Stefan Kinsinger broke loose from the line of scrimmage and went 71 yards for the score. The extra point was no good and the Dutch had a 6-0 lead with 11:06 left in the first quarter.

Sheldon answered with a 67 yard drive capped when Hunter McDonald scored the first of four touchdowns on a 46 yard run. Trevor Mayer added the extra point and the Orabs led 7-6 with 5:25 to go in the first quarter.

MOC Floyd Valley responded with a 42 yard drive capped by a 3 yard touchdown run from Ethan Achterhoff. The 2 point attempt was no good and the Dutch were back in front for good 12-7.

A pair of Sheldon fumbles would lead to a pair of scores for the Dutch. The first resulted in a 58 yard drive with Kinsinger hitting a 27 yard field goal with 6:00 minutes left in the half.

The second set up a short field at the Sheldon 20 yard line. Kinsinger cashed in with a touchdown pass to Pieter Swart. the kick by Kinsinger was good and the Dutch were up 22-7 with :27 seconds to go in the first half.

Sheldon got the ball to start the second half and went 68 yards for the score as McDonald went in from the four yard line. A two point attempt was no good and the lead was cut to 22-13 with 7:35 to go in the third quarter.

A fumble recovery at the MOC Floyd Valley 40 yard line resulted in a 5 yard McDonald touchdown run. Mayer’s extra point pulled the Orabs to within 22-20 with 5:15 to go in the third quarter.

The Dutch responded with a 94 yard drive capped by a 20 yard pass from Kinsinger to Eli Dahl. The extra point put the Dutch up 29-20.

Sheldon capped the scoring on a 74 yard touchdown run by Hunter McDonald as the Orab senior scored his fourth touchdown of the night to go with a 200 yard plus rushing performance. The kick was no good and the Orabs trailed 29-26 with 9:57 to play and that would be the final score.

With the win MOC Floyd Valley claims the final district playoff spot. The Dutch are 3-2 in the district and 4-4 on the season going into their regular season finale at Sioux Center.

Sheldon finishes district play at 2-4 and stands at 3-5 on the season. The Orabs close out the season at Hartley next Friday against the Hawks of Hartley Melvin Sanborn in a non district game.
