MOC Floyd Valley Lady Dutch Headed Back to State Tournament

The MOC Floyd Valley Lady Dutch are headed back to the 3A Girls State Basketball Tournament following a 51-42 win over Spirit Lake in the Region 1 title game Tuesday night at Spencer.
The undefeated Lady Dutch ranked second in the state found themselves down 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. They erased the four point deficit in the second quarter and pulled into halftime with a 25-23 lead. The third quarter proved to be the difference as MOC Floyd Valley outscored the Indians 13-5 in the quarter to take a 38-28 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Dutch held off a fourth quarter rally by Spirit Lake and then hit some key free throws down the stretch to get the win 51-42.
Sophomore Alexis Conaway had a double-double hitting for 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She also blocked 6 shots.
K.J. Veldman who came in as the leading scorer in the state hit for a game high 24 points.
With the win MOC Floyd Valley improves to 25-0 on the season and will open State Tournament play in the upper bracket on Tuesday afternoon. They’ll tip off at 5pm going against Bondurant Farrar who come in with a record of 22-2.
The winner will square off in the semi finals Thursday night march 1st against the winner of the other upper bracket quarterfinal that matches Dubuque Wahlert at 20-4 against Sioux City Heelan who takes a 23-1 record to the State Tournament.
