MOC Floyd Valley has advanced to the Class 3A semifinals with a 52-44 opening round win over Grinnell. The Dutch came in as the five seed and Grinnell the four seed. Grinnell closes the season at 20-5. With the win the Dutch improve to 21-4 on the season and will meet eight seed Harlan in the upper bracket semifinal at 6:35 Thursday evening. Harlan upset top seed and undefeated Vinton-Shellsburg 67-56.
The big difference in the game was bench scoring with the Dutch having a 24-0 advantage. Levi Jansen led the way with 16 points and four steals. He was joined in double figures by Justin Van Kalsbeek with 12 points and a dozen rebounds. As a team the Dutch controlled the glass with a 40-26 rebounding advantage.
Grinnell was led by Joe Nowasell who led the offense with 17 points as the only player in double figures for the Tigers.
The three Siouxland Conference Co-Champions have all earned a spot in Thursday’s semifinals with 23-3 Boyden Hull tipping off against 26-1 North Tama at 12:15 in the 1A lower bracket semifinal. In Class 2A Sheldon at 23-3 with go against 17-8 Kuemper Catholic at 3:45 and MOC Floyd Valley will be in the 3A upper bracket semifinal with a 6:35 scheduled opening tip.
