Mustangs Advance With Win

Hartley, Iowa — Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and George-Little Rock continued the road to the Girls State Basketball tournament with a Class 1A Girls Region 1 quarterfinal meeting Tuesday night in Hartley. The contest went down to the final minute as George-Little Rock came away with the victory 55-51.

Each team would fight for some kind of advantage throughout the first quarter and at the end of one it was George-Little Rock leading 12-10. The Hawks and Mustangs would continue to battle in the 2nd quarter, with the advantage in the Mustangs favor 25-20 at halftime. G-LR would keep their 5 point edge at the end of the third quarter, leading 37-32 over HMS. The Mustangs would lead in the 4th quarter by as much as 10 points, but HMS found a way to come back and tie it at 50-50 with less than a minute to go. Key free throws late by Mia Graham would seal the deal for G-LR and they would go onto win 55-51.

The Mustangs had two players in double figures. Mia Graham lead the charge with a team high 19 points, and Mariah Terhark added 15 of her own. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got a game high 24 points from Regan Shockley.

G-LR improves to 11-12 on the year. HMS ends their season at 16-7.

George-Little Rock will advance to the Class 1A Region 1 semifinal versus Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in Marcus at 7:00 pm on Friday night
