Nighthawks Shut Out Spencer

Le Mars, Iowa — The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks are moving on to the Class 3A District 2 final after defeating the Spencer Tigers 7-0 Friday afternoon.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley opened up the scoring for the contest in the top of the opening inning. Brett Moser lifted a shot to the gap into left center that scored Shane Solberg from 2nd base, Cade Moser drove in Mitchell Diekevers from 3rd base with a single to center field, and Zach Noble drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to center field. After the top of 1, it was BHRV 3-0.

The Nighthawks added another pair of runs in the top of the 4th. Noble came in to score on an error, and Eric Salazar was driven in on a Jackson Mulder single. After 4 it was BHRV leading 5-0.

Another Tiger error gave the Nighthawks another run in the 5th, and that pushed the score to 6-0, and the Nighthawks added more insurance in the top of the 7th to make it 7-0 and that would be your final.

Noble got the complete game shut out win for the Nighthawks. He struck out 3 and gave up just 3 hits.

Brady Seier took the loss for the Tigers. Seier went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 4 earned on 8 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 2.

With the win, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 17-8 on the year and will play Le Mars on Monday, July 17th at 7 pm back in Le Mars for the Class 3A District 2 title. LeMars won their semi against Spirit Lake 5-0. Spencer ends their year at 15-9.

In the Class 3A District 1 Semifinals at MOC Floyd Valley Friday night the upper bracket semi went to Sergeant Bluff Luton 10-4 over MOC Floyd Valley. The lower bracket semi went to Sioux City Heelan 10-0 over Storm Lake. SBL and Heelan play for the District 1 title Monday back at Orange City. District Champions move on to the Substate round and will be a game away from the State Baseball Tournament.
