Nighthawks Clinch Playoff Berth With Win

nighthawk logoRock Valley, Iowa — A strong first half catapulted the #3 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks to 48-17 victory over the Sioux Center Warriors at Nick Hulst Field in Rock Valley Friday night.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley received the opening kickoff to start the game and put points on the board on the ensuing drive. After Shane Solberg returned the opening kickoff into Sioux Center territory, Solberg got into the endzone from 15 yards out on the jet sweep to jump to a quick 7-0 lead early in the opening period. Sioux Center responded with a seven-plus minute drive but settled for a 32-yard Cristian Olivares Field goal to make the score 7-3, still in favor of the Nighthawks. The next Nighthawk possession ended in more points. Brett Moser ran in from 4 yards out to push the score to 14-3 late in the 1st.

BHRV scored 3 times in the 2nd quarter. Shane Solberg scored on a 26 yard reception, and followed that with a 59 yard TD reception, and ran into the endzone from 5 yards out to make it 35-3 heading into halftime.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley was the first to score in the 2nd half. With 3:00 left in the 3rd quarter, Jacob Schafer sprinted to the endzone from 44 yards out to push the score to 42-3. Sioux Center then responded with two scores of their own. Brendan Zeutenhorst was on the receiving end of a 30 yard touchdown reception from Tyus Arends, and after a successful onside kick, Zeutenhorst again was on the receiving end of a 26 yard touchdown reception. That made the score 42-17, still in favor of the Nighthawks.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley put the game away with a 1 yard JT Van’t Hul QB keeper, and that made your final score 48-17 BHRV.

The Nighthawks improve to 7-1 on the year, 6-0 in District 1 play, and clinch a playoff berth. BHRV ends their regular season on the road against 7-1 Central Lyon/George-Little Rock for the district title next Friday.

Sioux Center falls to 4-4 on the year, 3-3 in the district. The Warriors end their season playing host to Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon Friday night.
