Nighthawks Fall Short; Will Play for 7th

Fort Dodge, Iowa — Sioux Center edged Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 6-5 in the consolation round of State Softball in Fort Dodge on Wednesday morning.

The Nighthawks opened the scoring in the top of the 1st. Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag drove in a run with a single to left field to make it 1-0 early. Sioux Center then countered with a run of their own. Jessica Harald was able to drive in Camryn Cleveringa with a single to right field. Early in the contest the score was tied 1-1.

Sioux Center loaded the bases in the bottom of the 2nd, and Shayla post was able to double to left field to drive in 2 runs, and Harald was later able to steal home on a wild pitch. After 2 innings of work it was 4-1 Sioux Center.

BHRV got back on the board in the 3rd when Sammy Blum doubled to left field to drive in a run from third base to make the score 4-2, still in favor of the Warriors. Sioux Center responded with another run of their own. Mandy Sitzmann would fly out to center, but Hannah Dykshorn was able to tag up and come in to push the score to 5-2.

The Nighthawks made a comeback in the 6th. Van Der Zwaag hit a 2-run home run to straight away center to pull with in 5-4, and Alexis Mousel would drive in a run to tie things up at 5-5.

Sioux Center loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6th, Jessica Harald would come into score on a wild pitch and Sioux Center came away with the 6-5 win.

Dykshorn got the win for Sioux Center. In 6 innings of work Dykshorn gave up 3 earned on 7 hits and a walk and struck out 4.

Taking the loss was Van Der Zwaag. She went 6 innings, and gave up 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 5 walks, while striking out 6.

With the win, Sioux Center improved to 24-7 on the year, and will played for 5th place at 2:00 pm. They fell to Humboldt 10-0 and finished 6th. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley fell to 32-4, and will played for 7th place at 2:00 pm.
