Nighthawks Outlast Lions

nighthawk logoRock Rapids, Iowa — #2 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley came away with the 28-14 victory over the Central Lyon/George-Little Rock Lions in a defensive battle Friday night in Rock Rapids.

The Nighthawks were the first team to put up points on the board midway in the opening quarter. Following a Lions turnover-on-downs, a screen pass from Brett Moser to Shane Solberg went 66 yards for the score, and after the PAT it was 7-0 BHRV with 4:33 left in the 1st. The Nighthawks scored on their next possession. Jacob Schafer found a hole and ran 40 yards for the score to make it 14-0 Nighthawks with 3 seconds left in the 1st. The Lions got on the board in the 2nd quarter. Lucas Nagel snuck across the goal line for 1 yard score. With 5:14 left in the 1st half, the Nighthawks lead was cut to 14-7. BHRV responded with another scoring drive. Shane Solberg was on the receiving end of a 27 yard TD reception, and heading into halftime it was 21-7 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.

Central Lyon/George-Little Rock started the scoring in the 2nd half. After Mitch Van Beek intercepted a Brett Moser pass and brought it deep into Nighthawk territory, Van Beek finished off what he started with an 8 yard touchdown catch from Nagel to make it 21-14 BHRV with 3:49 left in the 3rd quarter. The Nighthawks responded with a scoring drive capped off by a Shane Solberg 14 yard touchdown run to make it 28-14 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and that would be your final after a tense battle throughout the 4th quarter.

The Nighthawks improve to 8-1 on the year and 7-0 in the district.

Central Lyon/George-Little Rock falls to 7-2, and 6-1 in district play.
