Nighthawks Shutout Orabs in Six

nighthawk logoBoyden, Iowa — State ranked Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks defeated the Sheldon Orabs 10-0 in Class 3A tournament softball play Wednesday night.

The Nighthawks would get on the board in the top of the 3rd to have the slight 1-0 lead, then add seven more in the 4th.  The big play there was a bases clearing 3-run double by Sammy Blum. In the 6th inning BHRV would score 2 more on a Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag single to move the score to 10-0, and that would be your final.

Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag got the win with the complete game shutout, giving up just 3 hits and walking 1, while striking out nine.

Orab pitcher Nicole Johnson took the loss. Johnson gave up 6 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, and struck out 3.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 23-7 on the year and will play on Friday night in the 3A Region semifinal against Sioux Center at 7:00 pm in Boyden. The win was the 200th win for Nighthawk coach Sarah Friedrichsen.

Sheldon ends their year at 6-16
