Date posted - October 13, 2012

The #1 ranked Boyden Hull Rock Valley Nighthawks took down the Cherokee Washington Braves 46-0 in Rock Valley on Friday Night.

After a slow start, the Nighthawks drew first blood on a 61 yard drive lasting 1:57. The drive was capped on a 13 yard Touchdown run by quarterback Brandt Van Roekel. The extra point was no good making the score 6-0 with 6:53 left in the first quarter. Boyden Hull Rock Valley added to the lead following a Cherokee three and out with a 53 yard drive that lasted 1:37. Running back Logan Steins got the touchdown when he punched it in from 1 yard out. The 2 point conversion pass from Chris Sietstra to Dillon Schamber was good making the score 14-0 in favor of the Nighthawks with 3:42 left in the first quarter.

The Nighthawks added 25 more points in the second quarter highlighted by two safeties against the Braves. Boyden Hull Rock Valley started the scoring with a traditional 40 yard scoring drive. The drive lasted 1:04 and was finished off with a 11 yard touchdown run by Miguel Alvarado.

On the ensuing Cherokee drive, quarterback Levi Lundquist fumbled the shotgun snap and was sacked by a host of Nighthawks in the end zone for a safety. On the safety kickoff, coverage man Dillon Schamber returned the pooched Grayson Roosa kick 50 yards for the score. Schamber’s return made it 30-0 with 8:04 left in the second quarter.

Later in the 2nd quarter, after a failed fake punt by the Braves, the Nighthawks took over on the Cherokee 41 yard line, and scored a few plays later on a Brandt Van Roekel to Colin Bolkema 30 yard touchdown pass. The Van Roekel pass made the score 37-0 with 5:17 left in the half. The Nighthawks special teams added 2 more points before the end of the half, forcing a safety on a blocked punt. The score was 39-0 at the half.

With running clock in the 2nd half, Luke Keeble singlehandedly added the only second half score in the beginning of the 4th quarter. First Keeble returned a punt 45 yards to the 9 yard line, than scored on the next play from scrimmage on a 9 yard run. The final score was 46-0 in favor of the Nighthawks.

Next week the Nighthawks (8-0, 5-0 in District) will face Central Lyon George Little Rock in Rock Rapids. The Braves (0-8, 0-5 in District) will host Unity Christian in Cherokee.
