Nighthawks Top Orabs 55-21

nighthawk logoRock Valley, Iowa — The #5 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks defeated the Sheldon Orabs 55-21 in District football Friday night in Rock Valley.

The Nighthawks would score on their opening drive 42 seconds into the contest. Jacob Schafer found the hole and ran 54-yards for the score making it 6-0 early in the 1st quarter. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley again scored in the opening period. With 19 seconds left in the 1st, Shane Solberg got to the endzone with an 18-yard touchdown run. After the 2 point conversion it was 14-0.

The Orabs would get on the board with 9:19 left in the 1st half. Tyler Merley was on the receiving end of a Jaden Kleinhesselink 16-yard touchdown pass, making the score 14-7 in favor of the Nighthawks. Late in the 1st half, the Orabs would turn the ball over on downs deep in the Nighthawk territory, and two plays later Solberg scampered for the 43-yard touchdown with 30 seconds left. Heading into halftime the Nighthawks lead was 20-7.

The Orabs opened the 2nd half with a Tyler Lode 82-yard kickoff return for the touchdown to bring the Orabs to within 6. Early in the 2nd half it was 20-14 Nighthawks. BHRV responded with a drive of their own. Brett Moser found Solberg from 6-yards out for the touchdown pass. Midway through the 3rd it was 26-14 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. After the ensuing Orab drive stalled, Solberg would return the punt 70 yards to the house for the score. After the 2 point conversion it was 34-14 Nighthawks. Late in the 3rd, Brett Moser would jump across the goal line for the 1 yard score, pushing the Nighthawk lead to 41-14.

In the 4th quarter, following an Orab turnover, Elliott Van Kekerix would get his first score of the game from 3 yards out, making it 48-14. The Orabs responded with a Kyle Boerhave 23 yard touchdown reception from Kleinhesselink, making the score 48-21. With 7 minutes left in the game Van Kekerix got back into the endzone from 30 yards out. BHRV’s lead would push to 55-21, and that would be your final.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 3-1 on the year, 2-0 in the district. The Nighthawks will visit Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon next Friday.

The Sheldon Orabs fall to 3-1 on the year and 1-1 in the district. The Orabs host Central Lyon/George-Little Rock next Friday night in Sheldon.
