Northwestern holds a three stroke lead after the first round of the Eagle Spring Classic, a two-day, 36-hole event held at the Hillcrest Golf Club in Bartlesville, Okla.
Making their spring season debut, the Red Raiders shot an opening round of 304, three strokes in front of both Central Baptist and Kansas Wesleyan with a 307. Columbia (Mo.) and the host team, Oklahoma Wesleyan, are tied for fourth with a 311. Two additional GPAC teams are competing, Doane (8th – 321) and Hastings (11th – 337).
Head Coach Aaron Aberson’s squad is led by both Isaac Knock and Alex Snyder who are tied for fourth with a three-over 75. Two more Red Raiders are in the top 15; Austin Reitz (T8th – 76) and Tyler Merley, who carded a 77 and is T15th in his season debut. Jake Olsen (T23 – 78), Caleb Badura (T39th – 81) and Ryan Vaden (T68th – 89) round out the Northwestern scores.
Central Baptist’s Brodey Jackson is the overall leader after the first 18 holes, holding a one stroke advantage with a 73 (+1). Troy Watson of Kansas Wesleyan and Noah Wilson of Columbia are tied for second with a 74.
Tuesday’s final round was set to begin at 9 am on Tuesday, but was delayed by rain.
