Northwestern Signs Volleyball And Track Standouts

Northwestern logoOrange City IA — Northwestern College has signed a pair of outstanding athletes to enhance their volleyball and track and field programs.

Brooke Fessler, of Pella, has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Northwestern College next fall.  Fessler is a 5’10” setter who comes to Northwestern after playing one year at the University of Northern Iowa.

A standout while playing for Pella High School, Fessler earned IGCA first team all-state honors three years and second team honors as a freshman after leading her team to the state tournament all four years. She holds the school’s all-time record in assists and led the state of Iowa in assists per game as junior and senior. Fessler was named to the Des Moines Register all-state team, including Elite Team honors as a senior and was a four-time all-conference and all-district selection. Fessler won a national championship for the club team Iowa Rockets in 2008 and was named an AVCA All-American that same year.

An outstanding student, Fessler plans to major in elementary education at Northwestern and is the daughter of Bob and Deborah.

Bailey Kennedy, of Moville, has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball and track and field careers at Northwestern College next fall.

Kennedy is a 5’8” setter/outside hitter who played four years for the Woodbury Central High School volleyball team. Kennedy earned first team all-conference honors after leading her team with 1.9 kills per set, hitting nearly .200 on the outside. She also lofted up 216 assists and averaged 1.4 digs per set to go with 39 ace serves. An honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society, Kennedy plans to major in Exercise Science at Northwestern.

A four-year letter winner in track and field, Kennedy earned all-state honors both in 2011 and 2012. She finished fifth at the state meet in the 4x100m relay in 2011 and placed eighth in 2012 in the distance medley. Kennedy competed in the girls’ senior all-star meet and is the daughter of Mark and Wendy.
